Four ways Electric Vehicles benefit from Ceramic Coatings
As we move into an era of electrically powered locomotion, an increasing number of electric vehicles are on the roads. Chances are, your next vehicle will be a mild hybrid at a minimum, if not fully electric. Fear not - if you are a petrol head the below will still be of interest!
Naturally, as our main forms of transport move toward electric power, with usable ranges increasing as the technology develops, these electron-powered vessels spend more time on the roads. For EV owners, there are several good reasons to keep your paint and glass surfaces clean and free from debris with ceramic coating technology.
Reason 1 - Ease of Maintenance
Ceramic coatings make your vehicle’s paint surface slicker, meaning it is harder for dirt and debris to cling on to the paint. Road grime, tar, and sap will have a much harder time attaching, leading to a cleaner car. Those with ceramic coated vehicles can attest that they are indeed much easier to clean, and many owners actually perform ‘contactless’ interim washes, where the vehicle doesn’t even have to be touched with a wash mitt.
Reason 2 - JR Ceramic Packages Include a Polish
With virtually all brand new vehicles, a detailer's eyes can spot imperfections in the paintwork. All of our ceramic coating packages include a single stage polish which removes the majority of the minor imperfections found on new vehicles, whether they are from pre-pickup valeting, the manufacturing process, or transporting.
We perform a polishing step prior to coating the vehicle as it is the ultimate form of paint preparation - we are removing marks in the paintwork while simultaneously improving gloss. Whether it is a Tesla, a Nissan, or an MG, it will benefit from an enhancement polish.
Reason 3 - Road Safety
Special ceramic coatings can also be applied to glass, reducing smearing of the windscreen in adverse conditions, and also reducing debris from bugs sticking to the screen. This improves visibility in all seasons, and is a popular addon for our packages given the UK climate! The added benefit of these coatings is the beading of water off the screen, particularly at high speed, leading to better visibility and less use of the wipers.
Reason 4 - (Potentially) More Range
Now this one isn’t a promise, but there is empirical data which suggests it might be true. GTechniq’s Crystal Serum Ceramic Coating was used by the ‘Racing Point’ Formula 1 team to reduce the drag coefficient of the cars, ultimately making them faster around a circuit:
“Gtechniq joined the Silverstone-based team, to help maintain the aerodynamic efficiency of the team’s two cars, now driven by Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll. And until the end of the 2020 season, Gtechniq will be the team’s official supplier for all car care products and surface protection.” - Gtechniq 2018, link at bottom of article.
With the above in mind, it is safe to assume that this aerodynamic benefit also exists when these coatings are applied to a road car. An increase in your electric vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency makes it easier for the car to slide through the air, making each kilowatt hour go a little bit further.
To conclude, there are multiple benefits to Ceramic coating electric vehicles, from making them easier & quicker to clean, improving visibility in adverse conditions, or even squeezing an extra mile or two out of each charge.
